Report written by Form 6 student Sharan Aggarwal.
A cold Sunday morning on Wilson Pitches held host to the 10th Annual Tom Grant Football Festival: 12 Houses were ready to compete for he Champions League Replica Trophy.
The Senior Boys tournament was a largely competitive one, however Haywoods House came out on top with a defensive line of Fred Reynolds, Nikhil Rikhye, Tom Benson, Ahmad Bashar and Sharan Aggarwal holding up tight only conceding one goal. Wharflands and School House put on the pressure, however missed chances held them back. Barrow, Chapmans, and Clipsham finished off the rankings in what was a close tournament.
The Junior Boys winners were Clipsham who defied all odds and finished first in a three-way tie that was decided on goal difference. The Junior Girls tournament was taken home by the girls in purple: Buchanans.
A solid performance by Round House in the Senior Girls tournament ensured that they won the first place in their category as well as setting a new tournament record of 25 goals scored which allowed them to win the overall winner’s trophy.
The fun that everyone had while playing football in memory of Old Oakhamian, Tom Grant was something that a person of his personality would have enjoyed. A great decade of football has been played in Mr Grant’s name and it shall remain a tournament that always produces the greatest moments of football for many years to come.
