Five of Oakham’s rugby players are thrilled to be part of the Leicester Tigers U18 Academy Squad’s five-game winning streak! Sam, Harry, Kit, Jack and Charlie were part of the squad’s 28-14 win on Saturday against Leeds at Welford Road.
With this outstanding run of success, the U18 team has already secured their place in the final, which takes place at Saracens’ home ground, Allianz Park, on 17 February. They have just one more game to play to achieve an unbroken run, against Worcester, before then.
“These boys have coordinated their time as part of the Tigers U18 Academy Squad with their commitments to the School’s 1st XV - which has enjoyed a good season too, having won 8 games and drawn 1 in its 13 fixtures,” says Director of Rugby, Andy Rice. “Highlights of the School season include away victories at Stamford and Oundle, 2 victories against Stowe and a thrilling 20-all draw against Bedford. This was an outstanding achievement given that Jack and Sam (our first choice Half Backs) and Kit (Blindside Flanker) missed large chunks of the season due to injury.”
On the same day that Sam, Harry, Kit, Jack and Charlie were enjoying their win at Welford Road, two of Oakham’s rugby alumni were also enjoying success. Scottish International Hamish Watson (who left Oakham in 2010) and England International Alex Goode (who left in 2006) were part of the respective Edinburgh and Saracens teams, helping secure home Quarter Finals draws in the European Champions Cup to be played over the last weekend in March.
