Oakham 184 All out
Last week saw a remarkable game of U15 20 20 cricket between Oakham and Stamford.
Oakham were in some trouble at 95 for 9 wickets with No. 3 batsman Sam B 67 not out with the last man in, Sam O. A remarkable last wicket partnership with Sam B managing to “farm the strike” saw Oakham reach 184 with Sam B the last man out on 148, an incredible 128 of which were in boundaries that included 12 6s and 14 4s. A truly outstanding performance.
Teacher of Physics and ex England and Lancashire player, Mr Frank Hayes compared the innings to the partnership of the great Sir Vivian Richards and Michael Holding of the West Indies in 1984 at Old Trafford. The circumstances were identical to the Oakham match with 9 wickets down and Richards stranded on 98 before smashing the England bowling to all parts to end undefeated on 187. To this day it is regarded as the best one day innings of all time.
Oakham cricket has had a great start to the season with a string of successes including the 1st XI team’s win against Bedford last Saturday. Bedford 255/8 Oakham 256/1 with Sam W 120 not out, Lyndon 76 not out and Jake on his debut with 44 runs.
