The Boys 1st VI qualify for the Hockey National Finals!
5 December 2016
The Boys 1st VI had a successful weekend of indoor hockey qualifying for the National Finals as the Regional runners up.
Their pool consisted of Warwick, Worksop, Repton & Malvern and it was a strong start for the team beating Warwick 5-1. The boys played some exciting hockey in their second game to beat Worksop 4-0.
The next match was against Repton, where the boys missed chances to win the game and drew 2-2. These results meant that the top place in the pool was closely contested between Oakham and Repton.
To take the lead, Oakham needed three more goals than Repton in their final pool games. The boys rose to the occasion and responded brilliantly by winning 11-0 against Malvern with some excellent attacking hockey.
Oakham therefore topped the group and played against Rugby in the semi-final. The boys continued to play very well and easily won 6-0 to book their place at the National Finals at Whitgift School in January.
The final game of the Regionals was a repeat of the pool game against Repton but with a place at Nationals secured, the match was not as fiercely contested and Repton finished 5-1 victors to claim the Midlands title.
Hopefully in January, the boys will have a chance to challenge Repton again in the National Finals!
