Lord Clarke (OO) welcomed a group of aspiring Law students to the UK Supreme Court and gave them a real sense of what the legal profession entails and an insight into real cases. Lord Clarke spoke warmly and fondly of his schooldays (over 55 years ago) at Oakham and still remembered quotes from his teachers which helped encourage his motivation and direction into the legal profession. Oakham students were delighted and grateful for the personal tour (including meeting very briefly three other Supreme Court Judges), as well as the chance to observe cases and have lunch with Lord Clarke. Lord Clarke has always made strong recommendations for potential Law students to study subjects like Politics, History and English. Mr Ward, Head of Politics and International Relations, commented that, “Lord Clarke has always been exceptionally generous with his time with Oakhamians over recent years and it’s a such a great joy to see an inspirational figure pass on his real grit and wealth of knowledge to our future leaders of tomorrow.”
The group also managed to fit in a quick stop outside Downing Street where they bumped into Jon Pienaar (BBC Deputy Political Editor), who was getting ready to present on the BBC News channel.
