Success for U14, U16 and U18 girls' hockey teams!

Congratulations to the U14, U16 and U18 girls’ hockey teams who are all through to the Regional rounds of the England Hockey Investec Schools Cup.

The girls played superb hockey throughout their tournaments each team winning all but one of their fixtures.

The U14 squad beat Wellingborough 2-0, the Minster School 7-0 and lost only one game in the pool matches to Repton.

The U16 team drew against Ellesmere (0-0), beat Newcastle-under-Lyme (2-0), comfortably won against Fernwood (12-0) and lost a tight game to Trent (1-0).

Meanwhile Oakham’s U18 girls came away with wins against King Edwards Five Way (4-0), Kings High Warwick (1-0) and a loss against Trent (1-0).

Director of Hockey, Mr James Bateman said, “I am delighted that all three age groups are through to the Regionals. The girls played some excellent attacking hockey throughout their tournaments and should be extremely proud of their achievements. We are now looking forward to competing in the next stage of the competition.”

It is certainly a busy week for Oakham's hockey players, with the U16 Girls playing at the Zone Finals on Monday and the U18s on Tuesday.  The U18 Boys are playing at the County Indoor tournament on Wednesday, with girls then playing the day after. Finally, on Friday the U14 Girls will be at the Regional Finals. With so many teams playing in finals, this is an impressive display of Oakham's hockey prowess on the pitch.
