Student to represent England in the British Schools Small Bore Rifle Association

Form 7 student Vanessa has been selected to represent England in the British Schools Small-Bore Rifle Association (BSSRA) International match 2018.

Vanessa, who is the captain of the School’s shooting team, has made the cut from hundreds of candidates with only 12 being selected to shoot in the ‘A’ Team. Last year she represented the England ‘C’ Team and has since increased her personal average to 96.9 points gaining her an ‘A’ Team place.

The competition will be against Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands and involves shooting two 10-bull cards between now and the middle of March. These will be shot in the School’s 25 metre range, and will be sent to the International adjudicator for scoring.

Vanessa has already enjoyed shooting success this year making it through to the final stages of the BSSRA Individual Championships.

Master in Charge of Shooting, Mr Iain Reeves said, “This is an incredible achievement and fully deserved. Vanessa has been a stalwart shooter for the past 4 years whilst at Oakham and is truly dedicated to the sport.”
