A talented Oakham Sportsman was captain of the Leicester Tigers Academy team for the first time last weekend and led his team to victory against the Worcester Warriors 42-14.
Form 7 student Cameron was initially selected to represent the Leicester Tigers U18 Academy in the National League two years ago and is a second row player. As a result of his recent performances, including scoring a try on his debut for the AXV, Cameron has now been invited to train with the senior squad in preparation for this week’s game.
Fellow Oakhamian Sam, in Form 6, is also a member of the Academy, playing as Fly Half, and helped secure last weekend’s win.
Director of Rugby Andy Rice said, “It is a great achievement for both boys in a very competitive environment. They work hard and it is fantastic to see their efforts rewarded with such good results. I look forward to following their progress.”
Both Sam and Cameron manage their training around studying for their A-Levels.
Oakham has a long and successful association with Leicester Tigers Academy and many of our players, such as Matt Smith and Tom Croft have gone on to win professional contracts with the club.
