The final debate of the senior inter-house debating competition took place last night in front of a packed audience. Chapmans (proposing) and Barrow (opposing) debated the motion ‘HS2 is a waste of money’, with both teams putting on an excellent display of skill, research and teamwork. Barrow won the debate but the Debating Cup was awarded to Chapmans, who scored the most points in the competition; Barrow and Haywoods were tied in second place.
‘Debating has really caught fire this year and the standard of all three of the finalist teams was outstanding’ says Megan Fairley, Head of Religion and Philosophy. ‘This has been an exciting competition to watch – it is clear that we have some fantastic future debaters in Forms 5 and 6’.
Chapmans now go forward to the Champions’ Final to face School House, who won the Form 7 debate.
