Regional Success in the Junior Team Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Hattie (Form 3), Ben (Form 3), Scott (Form 2) and Eddie (Form 2) who finished an impressive joint second place in the Regional Final of the Junior Team Maths Challenge.

The students worked together as a team and were tested in four different rounds, which comprised the following:-

  1. A group round where they had to solve 10 questions
  2. A crossword round where they had to work on different parts as pairs
  3. A shuttle round where they had to answer a series of four questions correctly against the clock
  4. A relay round where they took it in turns to solve problems.

Teacher of Mathematics, Mr David Russell, said, “I am really proud of the team’s outstanding efforts and the teacher invigilating our pupils made a particular point of complimenting them on their maths as well as their conduct during the course of the day, which was extremely gratifying to hear.”

The pupils may now possibly qualify for the National Final in June as one of the best runners-up, depending on other teams’ scores in the remaining qualifiers and will find out if this the case next month.
