Oakham’s Head of Girls Football, Robert Johnson, has been appointed the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) Midlands Region Head Coach.
The role entails selecting and then coaching the ISFA Midlands squad. Rob explains; “once I have selected the best squad possible from all of the independent schools across the region, we’ll then focus our training on developing all of the skills needed to win the National Finals.”
Four girls from Oakham were part of the ISFA Midlands Squad this year and the sport has thrived under Robs coaching. Three years ago he began coaching Girls Football, after working with the boys for 12 years. In the last three years the Girls team have gone on to enjoy a variety of successes – individually and for the School. Most notably, in 2015 they won the ISFA National Cup!
Rob is already busy planning some training matches against Nottingham Forest and Leicester City. “The best players at the National Finals are selected for the ISFA National Team, who play various countries and get to train at St George’s Park, where all the full England squads train,” he continues. “We’ll certainly be aiming to catch the selectors eye – and we’ve got a year to prepare!”
