Over the Easter break a group of Form Three and Four pupils studying French stayed with host families in Montpellier, France and attended a language school.
The visit was designed for the students not only to immerse themselves into the French culture and improve their language skills but also to discover what it is like to live with a French family.
During their stay the group also had plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding area with trips to the famous medieval Palais des Papes in Avignon and the beach Palavas-les-Flots. The students also took a guided tour of Montpellier with its own Arc de Triomphe, the medieval university and cathedral, as well as the beautiful Promenade du Peyrou and its stunning views of the city.
Third Former Alice said about the trip, “I can already notice the difference in lessons. It's made it easier to understand the language and say things quicker.”
At Oakham, French is a core subject studied by nearly all students to GCSE and by many beyond. It is one of the most popular subjects in the Upper School with about 70 students studying French at A-level or in the International Baccalaureate.
