Pupils compete in Road to Wimbledon Tennis Tournament

Eight pupils from Forms 1 to 3 recently entered the U14 HSBC Road to Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. This is the biggest junior competition in British tennis and it gives all U14 players the opportunity to progress through to the final, which is held on the world famous grass courts at Wimbledon.

The pupils competed in a series of round robin matches at Oakham playing the best of 5 games. The top two places qualify through to the next stage, which will be held at Loughborough University.

These places were awarded to Lauren in Form 2, who won the competition winning 6 out of 7 matches, and Daniella in Form 3, who came second winning 5 of her 7 games.

Peta Girdwood, Director of Tennis and Head of Girls PE said, “It was a great experience for all the players to have taken part in this junior event. They played their hardest and it all came down to the final round. Many congratulations to Lauren and Daniella and we wish them all the best in the next round.”
