Two of Oakham’s actors have received offers from internationally renowned drama schools after impressing admissions tutors during rigorous audition processes.
Amber has been offered a place to study at London Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This is not the first time an Oakhamian has won a place at this prestigious drama school – Nick Banks spent three years studying acting here prior to going on to star in a number of films and plays, including Kingsman: The Secret Service. Amber will be starting her one year Foundation course in September.
Katherine has, following her one year Foundation course, now been offered a place on the 3 year Classical Acting course at The Lir Academy in Dublin. She joins a long line of Oakhamians who have won places at this world-renowned drama school; previous alumni include Seb Quin, Elli Tidswell and Lucy Johnson.
Both actors starred together in the Scholars’ Production of By the Bog of Cats – Amber adeptly portraying the Mother, with real comedic impact, whilst Katherine gave a powerful performance as the Bride. They also acted together in the School’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with Katherine playing Titania.
Director of Drama Gilly Norell said, “As always, I am incredibly proud of our actors who win places at such incredible institutions - especially given how fiercely competitive it is to win a place to study acting. To be accepted into these world-renowned institutions is an enormous achievement, and further cements Oakham’s reputation for encouraging outstanding acting talent. We all wish Amber and Katherine the very best, as they now take their first steps into what hopes to be promising careers.”
