Congratulations to Form 7 student Joshua and Form 5 pupils Archie and Alex who won first, second and third place respectively in the recent Otterbox Design competition. Otterbox is a leading design company of phone and tablet accessories and the pupils’ brief was to help expand their product line-up for children.
The winning designs included covers in the shape of a Spaceship, a lego design backing and one with a latch system. The winners have been awarded Amazon vouchers.
Pupils from Forms 1 to 7 entered the competition, which gave them the opportunity to solve a real-life design challenge whilst developing their skills and knowledge in the subject. They completed their design work over the Summer holidays, showing great passion and dedication.
Former Oakham School teacher of Design and now Director of Innovations and Insights at Otterbox, Becky Lawson said, “My team really praised the work all round; from the great Design process to the quality of ideas and ‘nods’ to biomimicry. They also came to the conclusion that the students’ vocabulary was better than theirs! The team really enjoyed judging the designs.”
Head of Design & Technology Mr Tim Weston said, “We were so impressed by all the entries of all ages, that eight additional runner up prizes have been awarded.”
The Design and Technology Department is renowned for inspiring its pupils and have another Design project similar to the Otterbox competition planned for next summer with a leading UK design company.
