OO Kathryn Lane makes senior international debut for England Hockey

Congratulations to Old Oakhamian Kathryn Lane (13) who, after many years of playing for England U18s and U21s, has made her senior international debut for England Hockey.

Kathryn won her first cap during yesterday’s 3-0 win over South Africa.

“It’s great to see Kathryn receive her first cap and we are very proud,” said Director of Hockey James Bateman. “She has been playing at the highest level for many years and this is another fantastic milestone in her Hockey career.”

Just last month, Kathryn was named part of the Centrally Contracted Squad in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and this is the first match she’s played since training with the newly formed squad.

During her time at Oakham Kathryn was selected to play for, and captain, England U18s. At the same time she was also playing for the school team, which successfully made it to the National Finals!  After leaving Oakham, Kathryn progressed to playing for, and captaining, the GB U21 squad at the Junior World Cup last November, as well as playing club hockey.

Kathryn is following in the footsteps of Oakham’s first Olympic Hockey player, Crista Cullen, who represented Team GB three times during her career, winning Bronze in London 2012 and Gold in Rio last year.
