OO Alex Goode named European Rugby Player of the Year 2019

Congratulations to OO Alex Goode who has been named ‘European Player of the Year 2019’ after he helped his club Saracens win a third Champions Cup.

Alex Goode joined Saracens Rugby Club on leaving Oakham and has enjoyed an impressive career for club and country to date – including playing in winning European Rugby Champions Cup Finals in 2016, 2017 and now 2019. He was also named ‘Man of the Match’ in both the Championship and European Cup finals.

Director of Rugby, Andy Rice said, “This is such a worthy accolade as he is an outstanding player. Moreover, he has helped the team remain unbeaten in the tournament having played in every game this season. We are all incredibly proud of his achievement.”

Oakham sees many of its players win professional rugby contracts and Alex Goode is just one of its famous sporting alumni who has returned to Oakham to give coaching sessions to pupils. The pupils were really inspired by his visits and benefitted learning from such a talented player.
