We are delighted that Old Oakhamian Stuart Broad has been awarded an MBE for his contribution to sport. He received his award from the Prince of Wales during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace last week.
Stuart began his cricketing career aged 11 at Oakham, where he made a total of 50 appearances for the School’s 1st XI. He began to thrive at the game under the supervision of coaches Frank Hayes and David Steele, both ex-England players.
Since leaving Oakham in 2014, Broad’s career has gone from strength to strength – culminating in his well-deserved MBE. Last year he passed the landmark of 100 Tests and was recognised as one of England’s leading wicket takers. He also topped the International Cricket Council’s Test bowling rankings, the first England player in 11 years to do so.
