Oakham's netball season off to a good start!
Oakham's netball players have started off the term with a great pre-season training session and an U18 preseason tournament at Bedford Modern School.
“The tournament enabled players to get back in action and it was a good benchmark for the season ahead” said Michelle Northcott at Oakham. "The girls had a very promising start in the pool stage and won every game except one, which they lost narrowly 2-3. Having reached the semi-finals and secured a win, they were placed third in the competition overall."
There was also a fantastic turnout to the pre-season training camp, with approximately 90 girls attending from levels U12 to U18. The session was expertly led by Oakham's netball coaches and was designed to develop players’ netball techniques, fitness and skills.
During the training session, the girls carried out circuit training developing core netball attributes and there was also an opportunity for the players to learn how to improve their handling and passing skills under pressure using a Game sense programme . Finally, there was some match play where the focus was on learning attack and defence tactics?, as well as preparing our teams for the season ahead.
Michelle Northcott also highlighted that it is great to see such enthusiasm for netball at Oakham School. We have nearly 300 girls actively involved within the netball programme and they are all ready to represent the school this forthcoming weekend. It is also exciting to see once again Oakham’s U16 and U19 Teams representing Leicestershire at the Regional netball finals towards the end of January. Good luck to all Oakham teams for the forthcoming season.
