Oakhamians make their debut appearance for Premier and National League Hockey Clubs

Margot (Form 6), Ellie-Mae (Form 7) and Becca (Form 6) have made their debut appearances last weekend for the National League Club, Leicester, and the National Premier League Club, Beeston, respectively.

The girls train twice a week with their clubs and have been playing as part of their clubs’ junior programmes for several years.

Oakham’s Director of Hockey, James Bateman, said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls with the step up to senior level giving them invaluable experience of highly competitive hockey.”

The clubs have seen many Old Oakhamians successfully selected and rise through their ranks, such as Alice Huddlestone (17) and Lucas Ward (17). Maddie Pearce (17) who played for Beeston whilst at Oakham is now playing for the Womens Premier League Loughborough club. Kathryn Lane (13) also played for Beeston whilst at Oakham and went on to play for the 2018 Hockey World Cup in London for England Seniors.  Indeed, Matt Ramshaw (18), who plays for the National League Club, Loughborough, and who has been a part of the GB Elite Development Squad (EDP) since he was at Oakham School, is currently in Malaysia playing in the Sultan of Johor Cup.
