Oakhamians compete in English Schools Cross-Country Championships

Well done to Ewan, Peter, Rory and Hayden for competing in the English Schools Championships, which was held at Temple Newsam Park in Leeds. It was a fantastic achievement to be selected for the teams, as only 6 runners in the region were chosen for each age group.

With distances of 4100m (Junior Boys), 5200m (Inter Boys) and 6800m (Senior Boys) and severe weather conditions, our Oakham runners were really pushed to the limit. Great experience was gained by all in running at this level.

The Leicestershire Team manager thanked each and every athlete in the team for their fantastic efforts and exemplary behaviour and added they deserved a medal for just getting to the finish line. He also said they had competed in the most extreme conditions that he had seen at an English Schools competition, which hopefully won’t be repeated in a hurry!
