Oakham Tennis success in Aegon Regional Finals

Oakham’s Aegon U14 tennis team have taken second place at the Regional Finals, which were held at Loughborough University.

Lauren, Jemima, Sophie, Anna Maria and Emily qualified through to the finals by winning the County league competition earlier in the summer term.

The pupils fought off tough competition during the tournament beating King Edward Grammar School (10-2) and Newcastle-Under-Lyme School (8-4) to reach the final against Thomas Telford School.  Despite some fantastic play against strong opponents, one of whom was ranked a national junior, they were defeated in their last few games and came in second place.

Assistant Director of Sports (Girls) and Head of Tennis Peta Girdwood said, “All the girls were fantastic. They did phenomenally well to reach the finals and gained so much from playing at such a high level in the tournament. A huge well done to everyone.”
