Oakham School is delighted to be hosting two warm-up matches and a number of practice sessions prior to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup from Sunday 18 to Friday 23 June.
“It is absolutely fantastic, and a real testimony to Oakham’s outstanding sports facilities that the ECB have asked the School to host these sessions and matches,” says Iain Simpson, Director of Sport.
Australia, South Africa and the West Indies will be using Oakham’s facilities for practice sessions, as well as for warm-up matches prior to their international matches.
“Having the opportunity to see three international cricket teams in action at Oakham is a fantastic opportunity for our students and staff,” Iain continues. “We are incredibly honoured to play, albeit a small facilitating part, of this event. Especially given that it showcases women’s sport at the very highest level.”
Pupils will have the opportunity to watch the training and matches, as well helping to steward the event and meeting some of the team players. Most notably, members of Oakham’s 1st XI will be playing their part - as they will be providing net bowling for each of the practice sessions.
Members of the Oakham School community, as well as the wider Rutland community, are welcome to come along to watch either of the warm-up matches taking place on Doncaster Close:
· On Tuesday 20 June Australia is playing South Africa in a 50 overs warm-up match, beginning at 10.30am.
· On Thursday 22 June the West Indies will be playing South Africa, again in a 50 overs warm-up match, beginning at 10.30am.
