Always a highlight in the Oakham School calendar, activities for Service Weekend are due to get underway.
Held twice a year in the Spring and Winter terms, Service Weekend gives pupils an opportunity to do something out-of-the-ordinary as part of their D of E award, CCF training or Voluntary Action.
Pupils involved in Voluntary Action will be helping in a number of different areas within the community. Groups of pupils, accompanied by members of staff, will be preparing for and hosting the annual Harvest Party for local elderly residents, as well as helping out at Primary Schools and in other areas of Rutland.
Meanwhile, CCF recruits will travel to Norfolk and Cumbria to build on their military training.
Pupils working towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold D of E awards are setting out on their cycling, walking or rowing expeditions in picturesque locations all over the country. One group will be cycling in the North York Moors, while another rows on the River Thames, and another walks in the Peak District, amongst other locations. The groups have independently planned their journeys, as well as preparing supplies for the weekend.
