Oakham School shooters recently took part in a two-day target rifle shooting training trip to Bisley camp Surrey. Held at the London and Middlesex Rifle Association Club house, this practice was aimed at helping Oakhamians prepare for the forthcoming very busy Full-bore shooting season.
Mr Iain Reeves, Master in Charge of Shooting, tells us more:
“On the Saturday morning we shot on the Century range at 300 yards where everyone got 'their eye back in' and we were soon hitting the centre of the target with ease and refreshing repetition.
After a hearty lunch, we met and caught up with OO shooter Max Jones (16), who is currently shooting for Cambridge University. We then had a great afternoon back on the ranges testing ourselves at 500 yards. After a few teething problems, all the shooters were again performing well and scoring some good results, clocking up an impressive amount of V Bulls (the highest score).
Sunday saw us shooting at longer ranges of 600 and 900 yards on Century and Stickeldown Ranges respectively. During our time on Stickeldown, some of the shooters had the privilege of being coached by GB International Dr Johnathan Hull, who was there preparing for the Commonwealth Games.
It was a very successful weekend’s shooting and we are now very much looking forward to the start of our competition calendar.”
