Oakham School has been helping out with the Rutland Community Art Poppy Project, inspired by the 2014 installation at the Tower of London.
Teacher of Art 3D, Vladimir Pamihov tells us more:
“We are very honoured to be asked to contribute to this poignant project. The organisers ran a poppy making session at the School with the Lower School pupils, who enjoyed creating their own individual clay poppy ready to be installed in the grounds of Oakham Castle. They will be on display for a month in October-November.” Vladimir continues, “We are also delighted to offer the use of the school kiln twice a week for the final glaze firing of the poppies. Hopefully within 5 weeks, we will have fired 2500 poppies. This is a special project and it is great to see so many people coming together for it.”
The Oakham Poppy Project has involved all the primary schools in the area, care homes, Rutland Memorial Hospital and other institutions producing in excess of 10,000 poppies.
