Oakham sailors qualify for the Gold Fleet at the RS Feva National Championships, Torbay

Oliver and Archie in Form 3 successfully qualified for the Gold Fleet in the National Championships in Torbay. This is the highest rank for sailors competing in the 4 day event. Oakham School also finished a respectable second in the "Schools" category.

The prestigious competition involved 111 boats and 222 sailors from clubs and schools around the country.

12 students from Forms 2 and 3 took part in the races. They had a very physical challenge spread out over the four days, particularly the first day when there was an incredibly strong wind and difficult sea conditions. Director of Sailing, Mr Nick Neve said, “I am proud of all our pupils who took part. They worked well together as a team and showed tremendous courage and resilience.”

Oliver and Archie will be awarded a school trophy, donated by an Old Oakhamian, for being the top performing Oakham team at these Championships.
