Congratulations to five of Oakham School’s rugby players who are now Leicester Tigers Academy Premiership rugby champions after beating Gloucester 34-31 in the Grand Final at Allianz Park.
The players were keen to repeat last year’s championship victory, with Leicester Tigers scoring early and leading 24-0 at half time.
Form 7 student, Tigers Academy and Wales U20s player Sam, who contributed 19 points of his own in the match said, “It was a great squad effort. We got the result at the end, which was positive and shows all our hard work paid off. It was our last game together, so it was nice to get a result to remember in the years to come.”
Oakham students Harry, Kit, Jack and Charlie were also part of the team’s success and helped the squad’s outstanding unbeaten run in the Premiership Rugby Academy League ahead of the Final. Jack has just been selected for the England U18 rugby squad and will attend a development camp this week ahead of their international games starting in March.
Director of Rugby Mr Andy Rice said, “This is a brilliant achievement for the boys and we are very proud of them. It is great to see young talent being honed and developed at Oakham and we look forward to following their progress.”
