Oakham pupils help their local community

Oakham’s Voluntary Action pupils have been busy this Service Weekend helping their local community.

Head of Voluntary Action Mr Chris West Sadler tells us more:-

“A group of Form 5 pupils went to The Lodge Residential home, which provides accommodation for adults with additional needs. They enjoyed participating in some fun activities with the residents, which the hosts really appreciated.

Form 6 pupils organised a coffee morning for elderly residents at the Rutland Care Village, even baking the cakes for this occasion under the guidance of our own ‘Paul Hollywood’, Dr Andrew Nicoll.

Also out and about were Form 5 and Form 6 pupils who volunteered at the Rutland Foodbank, helping with organising donations into packs and learning about the work of this very important local organisation.

Finally, Form 6 pupil volunteers hosted local visiting children with additional needs in an afternoon of sporting fun: basketball, indoor football, Boccia and even dance routines, and later, splashing about in a swimming pool party – fortunately they gave me guidance on what music to play, apparently Mr West-Sadler’s favourite 80’s pop isn’t quite the thing anymore!”
