Oakham Politics students attend a talk given by Dr Justin Schlosberg discussing the power of the media over people and government. Teacher of Politics and International Relations, Mr Joseph Sanders tells us more:
"Students were fortunate enough to welcome Dr Justin Schlosberg from Birkbeck, University of London to a lecture on Government and the Media.
Dr Schlosberg, who is also a media activist, researcher and author, spoke in great depth about the level of press regulation in the UK and the potential biases that exist today more than ever.
He also guided students through the shadowy world of broadcast partiality, with case studies on Ukraine and Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party.
His critical yet upbeat message to Oakham students prompted some fantastic questions, particularly from Form 6 students currently studying how much influence the media has on voting behaviour. Debates ranging from feminist media outlets to the commercialisation of social media were discussed, leaving students with much to contemplate and make use of in their academic studies."
