An Oakham team took part in the ISGA (Independent Schools Golf Association) National Finals 2017 at the prestigious Princes and Royal St Georges golf courses in Sandwich, Kent on 23 and 24 April.
The Oakham team consisted of sixth formers Paul, George and Emily and was held over two days on testing courses.
In windy and challenging conditions on the first day, George fought hard to score 81 after a double bogey 6 on the first hole. Emily played really well to score 4 over par and Paul 5 over par (including three x 3 putts).
On the second day the team achieved creditable scores with George and Emily who played to 9 over and Paul to 5 over.
Overall the team was placed 11th out of 20 schools and Paul came 17th out of 69 in the individual event.
Mr Foster, Master in Charge of Golf, said, “The students performed well and I am really proud of what they achieved. It was a pleasure to accompany them.”
Oakham has a great golfing tradition and runs an excellent programme of tuition and match opportunities at the School. The School’s aim is to encourage all abilities to play the game, and there is plenty of opportunity for the elite to play competitively.
