Oakham Athlete wins Bronze in 4 x 400m Relay at the UK Schools Games

Evan, a student in Form 5, was selected to represent Team Midlands in the finals of the 4 x 400m relay at the UK Schools Games last week, following his success at reaching the National English Schools Finals.

Evan was selected for the U17 Men’s team and ran the last leg, typically given to the fastest and/or most experienced competitor on a team.

The UK School Games held at Loughborough University invites around 1600 elite young athletes across twelve sports and is the ideal opportunity to compete on a national stage against the best in their sport. Last year the event saw over 25,000 spectators from across the UK and a large number of the School Games’ alumni represented Great Britain last summer at Rio 2016.

Mr Trefon Vandoros, Assistant Director of Sport (Boys) said, “This is an  excellent result and a fantastic experience for Evan, as the Games is a spectacular event with a realistic major Games feel.”

This summer has seen a number of Oakham athletes continue to perform at an outstanding level. These include Luke in Form 6 who threw a new PB of 54.10m in the Javelin at the British Championships in Bedford and Rori in Form 4 who ran the 1500m at the Loughborough AC Open Series and achieved a time of 4m 36.8 seconds.
