Oakham athlete to represent team GB in Duathlon

A talented Oakhamian has won a place in the Under 20s GB (Age Group) European Duathlon Championships 2018, which will be held in Ibiza at Easter.

Hayden qualified to represent GB after placing fourth in the U20s European Qualifier at Oulton Park Race Track, Cheshire. He also came first in his age group (15/16) and was ranked 29th out of the 500 competitors overall (all age groups). During the race, Hayden undertook a 4.3km run, followed by a 21.5km bike course and another 4.3kn run. He finished the duathlon in a time of 1 hour 4 mins.

Trefon Vandoros, Oakham’s Director of Athletics said, “I am incredibly proud of Hayden’s achievement. His continued level of focus, discipline and sacrifice is outstanding and he fully deserves this result.”

Hayden has always been a keen runner. He races at county level in cross country, has competed in the National Triathlon Super Series and is part of the Oakham’s athletics team. He manages to fit his training round his Economics, Geography, Mathematics and Physics A-levels.
