Congratulations to Form 7 student Isaac for his call up to the England Counties U18 Rugby squad. He joins Oakham’s impressive, and growing, list of sporting students and alumni who have earned International honours for playing for their country.
Isaac, who has been playing prop position for Oakham’s first fifteen since the Winter term 2016, has moved up the rugby ranks over the past couple of years playing for the Leicestershire U18s and then being asked to join the Midlands U18 side. After putting in some impressive performances, he was asked to attend a 3 day selection process at Stourbridge for the U18 England squad. This saw players attend from across the country, and Isaac was one of 23 players named as part of the squad.
“This is a brilliant achievement for Isaac, and we are all incredibly proud of him,” said Director of Rugby Andy Rice. “He is a fantastic example of young rugby talent that is being honed and developed at Oakham, and his selection is yet more evidence that the School continues to be a training ground for national squads.”
Isaac is looking forward to facing Ireland in two test matches next month - on the 4th and 7th April and says “ it will be an amazing experience to play for my country and am excited to be taking my rugby to the next level".
Isaac joins two fellow Upper School students Cameron and Sam, both of whom are also playing Rugby for their country this year. Their names will also all now be counted amongst Oakham’s illustrious Rugby players – including Lewis Moody, Alex Goode, Tom Croft, Matt Smith and Hamish Watson, who currently plays Rugby for Scotland.
