Lower School pupils delight audiences in plays Beauty and the Beast and Magical Voyage of Ulysses

Lower School pupils have enjoyed standing ovations this week in their productions of Beauty and the Beast and The Magical Voyage of Ulysses.

"These past few days have really been a showcase of drama at Oakham,” says Director of Drama Gilly Norell. “In what other school can you see Classical Greek theatre and the razzmatazz of a Disney musical, performed by children aged 11-13, all in one week?!"

Highlights of Beauty and the Beast included inventive costumes, great casting and superb performances, all of which delighted audiences.

“The pupils have just grown and grown as actors,” continues Gilly. “They really stepped up in terms of listening for their cues, whilst also remaining in character and remembering their dance moves!”

“The play Magical Voyage of Ulysses is a fantastically challenging piece and the pupils certainly rose to the challenge,” adds Gilly. “Having to learn and deliver Greek style verse is impressive at any age – let alone at such a young age."

Gilly concludes, “Our Lower School pupils really are a fantastic talent pool and the prospect of having them for another 5-7 years is really exciting – watch this space!"
