Six Oakhamian linguists swept the board at the’ ‘All the World’s Your Stage’ workshop in Nottingham, winning 6 prizes. The event was run by ‘Business Language Champions’.
The students were put into groups on arrival and were tasked with writing, directing and acting in a play on a topical issue in their target language. The French plays all used the Gilets Jaunes movement as inspiration and the Spanish teams focused on the financial crisis and its effects on the traditional Spanish family model.
The day was interspersed with interesting talks on careers in the theatre industry and in translation.
Mr Michael Passey, Teacher of French, said, “All six students put in excellent performances on stage, and showed an incredible command of their respective languages.”
At the awards ceremony, which followed the plays, Emma H won Best Stage Presence, Tess D won Best Language, and Elizabeth G won Best Projection and Body Language. Elizabeth G and Janhavi M made up half of the team that won Best Play and Emma H was in the team who were runners-up in the Best Play category.”
