Headmaster takes on the Diamond D of E Challenge

Headmaster takes on the Diamond D of E Challenge
6 December 2016

HMAs part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Headmaster has successfully completed a challenge he set himself earlier in the year, which was to abseil down the Ashburton building whilst combatting his fear of heights!

During the School's Speech Day in May, Nigel Lashbrook highlighted some of Oakham's D of E successes over the past year and made reference to just how important the scheme is at the School. Having offered it for 56 of the 60 years it has been running, he wanted to take part - just as hundreds of students do every single year at Oakham.

Throughout 2016, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award have been celebrating their 60th Diamond Anniversary, hosting many events across the country as well as launching their Diamond Challenge initiative. The Diamond Challenge has three inspired themes challenging participants to step out of their comfort zone, whilst raising money for the Charity. The three themes are a) to learn a skill, b) to embark on an adventure or c) to conquer a personal challenge. All of the money raised goes to the Diamond Challenge fund, helping disadvantaged children.
