Head of Careers, Mrs Pippa Gibbs, was recently invited to work as a volunteer Careers Advisor at the ‘What Career Live?’ event held at the NEC, Birmingham on 1 March. Recognised for her expertise in the careers field, Pippa was asked to give advice, information and guidance to students from all over the Midlands.
‘What Career Live?’ is an essential and increasingly popular event for 15-19 year olds to help them decide what to do after leaving school, whether it be an apprenticeship, school leaver programme or university.
Pippa said, “I absolutely loved the day. It was brilliant meeting children from all backgrounds who had a genuine interest in the advice and information I gave to them. I was asked a whole range of questions from how to train as a dentist, how to apply to American universities, how to get work experience in the music industry to become a music producer and what are the job prospects with STEM subjects. The experience was incredibly rewarding and has given me the incentive to get involved with more voluntary work in the sector going forward.”
Oakham School provides exceptional careers advice to its pupils throughout their time at Oakham. Mrs Gibbs ensures that its advice is up-to-date and relevant in today’s fast-changing job market and the constantly evolving world of university provision.
