Form 6 student to chair International Committee at MUN Conference

Congratulations to Form 6 student Janhavi who has been given the honour to chair an international committee on the General Assembly at the International Model United Nations Conference (MUN) being held in Alkmaar, Holland after half-term.

Lead teacher of MUN Mr Laurence Ward said, “This is a great privilege for Janhavi, who will be overseeing debates on the right to privacy in the digital age, the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity.”

Oakham is delighted to have been invited to the Conference since 2008 and this year Oakhamians will also represent the Republic of Korea and the prestigious Security Council member Belgium.

The students debate on a range of issues facing the global community today, including the threat from extremist terrorist groups in the Middle East, the situations in Syria and Ukraine, weapons of mass destruction, and cybersecurity.

Laurence continues, “Through MUN, we hope to promote an awareness of current global issues, as well as encourage tolerance, understanding and compromise. The Conference provides delegates with a realistic simulation of the United Nations’ workings, and hosts debates, which are of the highest quality.”
