Pupils in Form 1 started the Bookbuzz reading programme today by collecting their chosen books, discussing them with teachers and enjoying some breakfast treats in the Smallbone Library.
Bookbuzz is a reading programme from the Book Trust, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure. Pupils had the opportunity to choose from a range of different books selected by a panel of experts. Each pupil received a copy of their chosen book to read and keep.
Librarian Lucy Breag tells us more:
“The pupils were very excited to collect their Bookbuzz books, and quickly settled down to either start reading or chat about their book with their friends. We were joined by Mrs North, Mr Andrews and Mr Morris, as well as the Lower School Housemasters and Housemistresses and two brave Decem members who were very keen to hear about the books and why each had been chosen. Before heading off to lessons clutching their new book, everyone had the chance to sample the delicious, warm pastries, the smell of which had been tempting us all morning. It was a very pleasant way to start a Wednesday morning, with all pupils engaged in animated, book-related conversations with any member of staff who dared to come and chat to them. We also saw more boys sitting quietly together on the same sofa than you would think humanly possible!”
