Economists from Oakham School took part in the Area Championships of the Bank of England's Target 2.0 competition.
Having won their place in this round following victory in the Regional Heats in November, the Oakham team performed strongly against tough competition. Their presentation covered current developments in the UK and global economic climate before concluding with a decision to tighten monetary policy, through a 25 basis point base rate rise. The team were commended by the judging panel, consisting of senior Bank of England staff, for their ability to back-up their policy decision as well as their definitive forecasts of CPI inflation, GDP growth and labour productivity.
Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr Jon Andrews commented, "The pupils' excellent performance is a reflection of their many hours of research and hard work. Both their ability and endeavour have been impressive; it has been a pleasure to work with the group for this most academically demanding competition."
