Prep school pupils from Kings College School (Cambridge), St Hugh's School (Woodhall Spa) and Witham Hall enjoyed a day of Jungle Book themed drama and dance workshops as part of Oakham’s Prep School Drama Day.
This is the second year running that Oakham has run this event, and, never one to rest on its laurels, the Drama Department created an even more challenging day of activities! The pupils spent half a day devising and learning a complex scene from the book; which allowed them to really test and enhance their acting skills. Oakham’s Drama staff and scholars helped them to develop, and put into practice, acting techniques they could use both on the day and in their future dramatic activities.
The enthusiastic Year 5s and 6s also all took part in an energetic dance workshop, where they learnt a fantastic routine to the famous ‘Bare Necessities’ song.
The day culminated in a showcase in the School’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre, where pupils were able to present their dancing and acting skills to their teachers and Oakham staff.
Director of Drama Gilly Norell said, “It was such a successful day, with some real talents emerging. It was a joy to be able to work with, and help develop, pupils who all really love drama. They were, collectively, incredibly focused – staying in role throughout the performance, which was particularly challenging given they were on stage the whole time. Their talent, hard work and focus certainly paid off – resulting in a fantastic performance at the end of the day.”
With the recent introduction of our 13+ Drama scholarship, to compliment our 16+ scholarship, we really hope to see some of this amazing talent on the QET stage in the future.
