Cultural immersion in Germany for Seventh Former Christos
Form 7 student Christos describes his time spent staying with a host family in Germany and immersing himself in the German culture.
“Upon arrival at the school in Friedrichroda, we were greeted by our host families. After the first day, we all started to develop a bit of a routine; some days we would have German lessons, other days we would be going on trips, either with the whole group or with our individual host families. It was definitely good to have a schedule planned that allowed us to both learn and have fun in the beautiful region of Gotha.
A particularly memorable trip was the one organised by UKGC, in which we went to Erfurt. The architecture was fantastic, and we were given time and freedom to roam about the city and shop.
I would eat out quite often with my host family and I also visited sights of interest with them, like the museum commemorating the former east. Everyday life in Friedrichroda was also really enjoyable like walking to school with my host partner and eating meals with the family. These moments were key parts of the course for me that made it great.
Looking back at the two weeks, I can say without any doubt that this course has been worthwhile.”
