Oakham’s cricketers have got off to a strong start in the first few weeks of the Summer Term, especially now the summer weather has finally arrived!
To date the boys have played six matches and won five. They’ve beaten Oundle School (by 11 runs), Repton (130 runs), Uppingham (57 runs), Rugby (28 runs), and The Leys School (85 runs). Whilst they were narrowly beaten by Stamford, the match was tightly fought, thanks, in part, to Andrew Jones taking a hat-trick plus one.
The girls have enjoyed two matches, winning against Stamford by 7 wickets and narrowly losing to Oundle (by 4 wickets).
Director of Cricket Neil Johnson said, “It’s been a great start to the season and there is a lot coming up over the coming weeks – notably next week’s match against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which is always a popular fixture that showcases Oakham.”
He adds, “Now that the sun has finally come out, there are even more chances to get into the nets and put in some additional practice sessions - which will no doubt further cement our teams’ success over their forthcoming matches.”
“The Boys 1st XI has been ably captained by Albert Grieve, who has shown great leadership, and the Girls’ team is also going from strength to strength, captained by Amy Schanschieff,” concludes Neil.
