Lower School pupils were delighted to welcome award-winning author and black belt martial artist Chris Bradford, best known for his children’s fictional series, Young Samurai and Bodyguard to Oakham.
Librarian Mrs Lucy Breag tells us more:
“Chris Bradford not only delivered a fascinating show on the ‘Young Samurai’ to pupils in Lower 1 and Form 1, but also a thrilling presentation to students in Form 2 about the ‘Bodyguard’ series.
During his talks, Chris conveyed his passion and respect for the martial art skills he has learnt and cleverly built into his stories, (especially when it comes to the samurai sword). He carried out several readings from his novels, which involved a good number of Oakhamians playing dramatic roles. These were the most action-packed readings the students are ever likely to experience with captivating displays of martial arts and bodyguard skills and tactics.
Lower 1 pupils were also treated to a Question and Answer session, which went down a storm. In the words of Edward, in Lower 1, “The most exciting part of the author’s talk was when he showed us his Samurai sword (katana). I didn’t expect it to be a real sword! His talk intrigued me and I’ll definitely be reading more of his books.””
