Art Scholars enjoy workshop on the power of narrative

Oakham’s Art Scholars enjoyed a workshop this week run by our Artist in Residence,  Miss Jessica Gilbert.

Jessica tells us more:

“The aim of the session was to explore the power of narrative within Art by working with found and collected materials such as train tickets, envelopes and stamps.  Using old maps or envelopes as their 'canvas', the students were playful with their chosen items in order to create compositions that tell a story. The outcomes produced at the end of the period demonstrated their unique and personal approaches to art.”

Jessica will be holding another session with the Scholars next week that will look into translating their artwork into little booklets or zines and thinking about ways of presenting ideas. Their finished work will be on public display in an exhibition held in the Wheelhouse gallery after half-term.
