Another win for Old Oakhamian U21GB hockey player Matt Ramshaw

Congratulations to Old Oakhamian Matt Ramshaw (18) who has won the Sultan of Johor Cup 2018 with the GB U21 side and as part of the Elite Development Programme.

The team travelled to Johor Bahru for the week-long tournament and played against New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Malaysia and India. They beat India in the final (3-2) with one of the goals being scored by Matt helping them to secure the win.

“It’s fantastic to see Matt part of the winning squad and we are very proud,” said Director of Hockey James Bateman. “He shows ongoing dedication, hard work and talent and this is another incredible milestone in his Hockey career.”

During his time at Oakham Matt was Captain of the 1st Team and won the County Indoor Title and Silver medals in the Nationals Schools Outdoor and Indoor Championships.  He was also selected to be part of the U18 National Hockey squad and won the U18 Hockey Writers’ Club National Youth Award. 

Matt recently took part in Oakham’s All-star hockey match – captained by OO and double Olympic medal winner, GB Hockey player Crista Cullen MBE. The specially selected OO squad played against a team of current students on the newly opened Crista Cullen Astro.
