Congratulations to Form 3 student Amy who has won a Silver medal at the Finals of the British Schools Judo Championships 2018.
Amy won her place in the Finals following some impressive wins in the Midlands Regional rounds. Over the course of the two day competition she was matched against 11 girls in her weight category. She demonstrated resilience and tenacity during the heats but was undaunted by the very high standard of judo, as 4 victories took her to the final.
This is the latest in a string of successes for Amy, who has already this year won Gold in two British School Regionals, a further Gold at the IAPS Judo Congress for Girls in High Wycombe and another Gold at Cardiff Camp.
Amy said, “It was a good experience, as all the fights were challenging and each girl had a different technique. As I have been trying to fit in regular runs and conditioning, including judo and fitness sessions on Thursdays, Tuesdays and Friday nights, I was exhilarated to be able to get through to the final and have a contentious fight.” Amy continues “Due to my hard work and other competitions I have fitted in this year, being able to medal was exciting. Knowing that the extra practice worked, I want to continue and fight in more competitions.”
Amy is heading to Sweden next, to take part in her first European competition, the Budo-Nord Cup. She will be busy training in preparation for the event at her club Rutland Vale Judo and will also be attending the Lugi Judo Camp.
