56 students selected for sports Academies, Squads or Pathways

An impressive 56 Oakhamians have been, this term, selected for sports Academies, Squads or Pathways in three different sports: hockey, rugby and netball.

“We are delighted to have a total of 27 hockey students, 24 rugby players and 5 netballers, who have all been selected to further pursue and develop their sporting talents,” says Director of Sport, Iain Simpson.  “Oakham continues to be a training ground for elite sports men and women – the accolade of winning places in Academies, Squads or Pathways is a great first step in their sporting journey.”

Rugby:

Five boys have been selected for Leicester Tigers Academy and one for the Wasps Academy.  The School’s strong relationship with The Tigers is shown through an impressive 18 students being selected to join their Developing Player Pathway – a total of seven U14 boys, eight U15 boys and three U16 boys.

Netball:

Three girls have been selected to join the U19 Wasps Pathway Squad, two have been selected for the Loughborough Lightning Pathway Squad, and one has been selected to join the Leicestershire County U15 Squad.

Hockey:

Seven girls have been have been selected for the Nottingham Performance Centre (seven U15s and two U17s) and one boy has been selected for the U15s. An impressive total of 18 students have been selected for the Leicestershire & Rutland Academy Centre (four U13s, nine U14s and five U15s) and one U14 player has joined the Lincolnshire Academy.
