1st XI Girls through to National Hockey Finals!

Congratulations to the 1st XI Girls who successfully qualified for the National Finals after finishing runners up in the Midland Regional Finals.

The girls lost their first match against Repton (3-1) but bounced back to win the next two games against Denstone (2-0) and Malvern (3-0) without conceding a goal.

The team played some superb defensive hockey against Trent in the Semi-Final resulting in a draw (1-1), which led to an exciting penalty shoot-out then sudden death victory (4-3).

With a place in the Nationals now secured, the team’s final game was against Repton but worn out by their previous exertions they lost the final 4-0.

Director of Hockey, Mr James Bateman said “It was an enthralling contest and the team fully deserve their victory against excellent opponents. I am immensely proud of their performance and, with the extra confidence they can take from this result, who knows what they can achieve in the National Finals in late February and early March next year?”
